Everyone knows that Rosie O'Donnell is coming out, right? Well, yesterday, she taped an interview with Diane Sawyer which will be shown on March 14th. Not only will she come out on camera (as opposed to in her book,) but she is doing so to make a point about the fact that in Florida, lesbians and gay men are not allowed to adopt children. Period. The ban on gay adoption was passed by the state legislature in 1977, in the midst of Anita Bryant's anti-gay crusade. The bill's sponsor in the State Senate told a local newspaper at the time that the new law was intended to send this message to lesbians and gay men: "[w]e are really tired of you. We wish you'd go back in the closet."

Honestly, I've never been a Rosie fan, in fact I was always repulsed that she was so far in the closet. But I have to give it to her on this one. You go, Rosie - with your badass, dykey self!
